I was thrilled to discover this little coin bit. I have an Archer Components electronic shifter on several of my bikes. I tried to remember to carry a penny or keep one in my tool kit but it was always getting misplaced. This is perfect and the Fix It Stix handle is way easier that spinning a penny. I love this.
Here is a new tool idea for you. After removing the battery cover I have another challenge of not being able to pull the batteries out of the device. The device is mounted on the rear chain stays at about a 45 degree angle. A magnet is the perfect tool for lifting the two batteries out the well they are in. A pocket telescoping antenna type of magnet works but that's another complete tool that I don't want to have to carry on my bike. I scoured the internet looking for a 1/4" hex bit magnet and came up empty. I had taken a short length of wooden dowel rod and super glued a neodymium magnet on the end but it didn't hold for long. I have since cut the end off of a 1/4" hex to 1/4" square bit adapter and glued a neodymium magnet to it. I also applied electrical heat shrink tubing around the joint. I don't know if this will last. I think a tool company could offer this type of bit which would turn any bit holder into a magnetic retrieval tool. I would keep several of these around in all of my EDC kits.
My goal was to use this for attaching and detaching my Streamlight TLR-8 tactical light as I tend to swap between wanting it on and off quite a bit. Unfortunately, the first use of this tool immediately led to it falling apart - the metal I guess is just way too soft. Very sad as I was really hoping to not have to keep using a coin.
The page for this part says to not exceed 10 in-lbs, but with a torque wrench I can see the aluminum deforming around 7 or 8 in-lbs. Maybe this works for some soft plastic battery covers but I wouldn't recommend it for anything else.
Love the Fix it sticks brand. All their tools are top quality. I would have given this battery cap 5 stars, although it doesnt fit everything. I found it to be too wide for the Sig Romeo X battery cap. Works in all my aimpoint, Trijicon and other Sig dots though.
Excellent tool that is far superior to using a coin to remove and replace optic battery covers. The only downside is that coins are usually very accessible and my Fix it Sticks tool kit is in the bottom of my range pack.
All Fix-It-Sticks products are top of the line. They are high quality, well constructed and perform flawlessly. I'd highly recommend any Fix-It-Sticks product.
Some folks might complain about the cost, just remember you buy quality the first time actually saves you time and money because you are not having to replace inferior products or tools.
